Hydration Hero — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 25 September 2026 · Last updated: 25 September 2026
Hydration Hero ("the App", "we", "us", "our") is published by Digital Sauce, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (ABN 35 675 111 449, ACN 675 111 449). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Hydration Hero apps for Android and iOS and their home-screen and lock-screen widgets.
If you have questions, contact us at development@digitalsauce.io.
1. Summary
- We collect the information needed to run your account and calculate your daily hydration goal: your name, email address, age, sex, weight, activity level, and the drinks you log.
- If you turn on Health Power Up, the App reads today's steps, active calories burned, and exercise sessions from Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS) to increase your daily water goal. It can also read and write water intake records. This health data is processed on your device. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties.
- If you turn on the weather feature, the App uses your device location to look up local temperature and humidity. Your location stays on your device and is not stored on our servers.
- We use trusted service providers (Google Firebase, Google Cloud, RevenueCat, AppsFlyer, and Open-Meteo) to run the App. They are listed in Section 5.
- You can delete your account and data at any time from Account → Delete Account in the App.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us
| Information | Why we collect it |
|---|---|
| Name and email address (from Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple) | To create and sign in to your account, and to show your name to friends you connect with. |
| Age, sex, weight, and activity level | To calculate a personalised daily water goal. |
| Drinks you log (type, amount, time) | To track your daily intake, streaks, badges, and history. |
| Hero character and avatar settings | To personalise your in-app character. |
| Profile photo (optional, taken with your camera) | To use as your avatar. Friends you connect with can see it. |
| Reminder settings, units, language, and theme | To send reminders at the times you choose and to show the App the way you want it. |
| Friends and challenges | To let you add friends, join challenges, send "nudges", and see each other's progress. |
| Feedback (optional, e.g. when deleting your account) | To improve the App. |
2.2 Health and fitness data (optional)
Health data is only accessed if you turn on Health Power Up or allow the App to sync water intake with your device's health service. You can turn this off at any time in the App, in Health Connect settings (Android), or in the Health app (iOS).
On Android, the App uses Health Connect to:
| Data type | Access | How it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Hydration | Read and write | Saves the water you log in Hydration Hero to Health Connect, and counts water logged in other apps toward your daily goal. |
| Steps | Read | Adds to your daily water goal based on today's step count (about 30 ml per 1,000 steps). |
| Active calories burned | Read | Adds to your daily water goal based on calories burned today (about 1.5 ml per kcal). |
| Exercise sessions | Read | Adds to your daily water goal based on today's exercise minutes (about 8 ml per minute). Only the start and end time of each session is used. |
On iOS, the App uses Apple Health (HealthKit) to read the same kinds of data (steps, active energy, workouts, and water) and to write the water you log.
How we handle health data:
- The App reads only data from the current day.
- Health data is processed on your device. Raw health records (such as individual step counts or workouts) are not uploaded to our servers. Only the resulting extra water amount added to your goal (for example, "+350 ml") is saved to your account.
- We do not sell health data, use it for advertising or marketing, use it to determine credit-worthiness or insurance eligibility, or share it with third parties.
- We do not use health data to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
- The use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Data obtained through Apple HealthKit is used only as described above and is never disclosed to third parties for advertising or data-mining purposes, in line with Apple's App Store Review Guidelines.
2.3 Location (optional)
If you turn on the weather feature, the App asks for permission to use your device's location while the App is in use. Your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a weather service, to get the current temperature and humidity. The App uses these to add extra water to your goal on hot or humid days.
Your location is stored only on your device, so the App can reuse the last known weather if you are offline. It is not sent to or stored on our servers. Only the resulting extra water amount is saved to your account. You can turn the weather feature off, or revoke location permission, at any time.
2.4 Camera (optional)
The camera is used only when you choose to take a profile photo. The photo is uploaded only if you set it as your avatar.
2.5 Purchases
If you buy a subscription, the purchase is handled by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We never see or store your payment card details. Our subscription provider, RevenueCat, receives your purchase status and an anonymous account identifier so we can unlock premium features on your devices.
2.6 Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics: Firebase Analytics records how the App is used, such as which screens are opened, whether onboarding was completed, and which features are used. This helps us improve the App.
- Crash reports and diagnostic logs: Firebase Crashlytics and Google Cloud Logging collect crash reports and technical logs (device model, operating system version, app version, error details) so we can fix problems.
- Push notification token: Firebase Cloud Messaging gives your device a token so we can send reminders, challenge updates, and nudges from friends.
- Install attribution: AppsFlyer helps us understand how people find the App (for example, which campaign or store listing led to an install). On iOS, AppsFlyer only uses your device's advertising identifier if you allow tracking when asked. On Android, the App does not access the advertising ID.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account and keep your data synced across your devices.
- Calculate and adjust your personalised daily water goal.
- Track your intake, streaks, badges, and challenges, and show them in the App and widgets.
- Send reminders and notifications you have enabled.
- Enable social features you choose to use (friends, challenges, nudges).
- Provide and manage subscriptions.
- Fix bugs, keep the App secure, and improve its features.
- Respond to your questions and feedback.
We do not use your personal information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. What other users can see
If you add friends or join a challenge, those users can see your name, avatar or profile photo, hero character, daily progress, streak, and badges. They cannot see your email address, age, weight, sex, or any health data.
5. Service providers we share information with
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that run parts of the App for us, and only as needed for the purposes described here:

Health data from Health Connect or Apple Health is never shared with any of these providers.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or acquisition. In that case, this policy will continue to apply to your information.
6. Where your data is stored
Your account data is stored on Google Firebase and Google Cloud servers, which may be located outside your country, including in the United States. Our service providers protect data with industry-standard safeguards and appropriate contractual protections for international transfers.
7. Data security
We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase security rules that limit each user to their own data, and Firebase App Check to block unauthorised access to our backend. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and review our safeguards regularly.
8. Data retention and deletion
- We keep your account data for as long as your account exists.
- You can delete your account at any time in the App: Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, avatar photo, and app data from our servers, and clears the data stored on your device.
- You can also ask us to delete your account and data by emailing development@digitalsauce.io from the email address linked to your account.
- Crash reports and analytics data are kept by our providers for a limited time under their own retention settings, and are not linked to your name.
- Data you have written to Health Connect or Apple Health stays there until you delete it in those apps.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (for example, under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the EU/UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate information (you can edit most details in the App);
- delete your information;
- object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent;
- receive a copy of your data in a portable format;
- complain to your local data protection authority (in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au).
You can also:
- turn off Health Power Up, weather, or reminders in the App at any time;
- revoke health, location, camera, or notification permissions in your device settings or in Health Connect;
- decline tracking on iOS when asked, or later under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
To make a request, email development@digitalsauce.io. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Children's privacy
Hydration Hero is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will tell you in the App before they take effect.
