Flo and Clue alternatives: private period trackers compared

If you're thinking of leaving Flo or Clue, the best alternative depends on why. For privacy, keep your cycle data on your phone, either with Apple Health's built-in Cycle Tracking or a tracker like SheSync whose free plan never uploads your logs. If you want a partner to understand your cycle, choose an app built around sharing. And if your only complaint is a subscription, you may not need to switch at all.

We make SheSync, so read this knowing that. We've kept the facts about other apps to what their own listings and official records say.

Why people look for alternatives

The alternatives

SheSync: private by default, built for sharing

SheSync is an iPhone period tracker. Tracking, period and ovulation predictions, symptom logging and insights are free, with no trial or time limit. On the free plan, everything you log stays on your phone and is never uploaded.

SheSync Pro adds partner sharing (a partner, parent or friend sees your phase, predicted dates and logged symptoms, with plain-English notes on what that phase tends to mean), an AI assistant that runs on our own servers rather than another AI company's, widgets and encrypted cloud backup. A companion character reacts to what you log, which makes the daily habit easier to keep.

The trade-off: on the free plan there's no backup, so if you lose your phone, your history goes with it. SheSync is iPhone-only for now.

Apple Health Cycle Tracking: the built-in option

If you have an iPhone, Cycle Tracking is already in the Health app, free. It predicts your period and a six-day fertile window, can alert you to cycle deviations such as irregular or prolonged periods, and, if you wear an Apple Watch to sleep, can use wrist temperature to improve predictions and estimate when you ovulated. Health data is end-to-end encrypted in iCloud when two-factor authentication and a passcode are on.

The trade-off: it's a capable record rather than a guide. It won't explain what each phase means for you day to day. See our full SheSync vs Apple Health comparison.

Staying with Flo or Clue, more privately

If you like the app you have, tighten it rather than switch. Flo offers an Anonymous Mode that doesn't link your name, email or identifiers. Clue is based in Berlin and covered by European privacy law (GDPR). Either way, review the app's privacy settings and turn off anything you don't need.

How to switch without losing your history

  1. Note your last few period start dates before you leave your old app. Most trackers, SheSync included, learn your pattern from your own history, so recent dates get predictions going faster.
  2. Set up the new app and enter your recent cycle details.
  3. Delete your account in the old app if privacy was the reason you left. Deleting the app alone usually doesn't delete your account or the data held on the company's servers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most private alternative to Flo?

Look for a tracker that keeps your cycle data on your phone. Apple Health's Cycle Tracking stores data on your device and end-to-end encrypts it in iCloud when two-factor authentication is on. SheSync's free plan keeps every log on your phone and never uploads it. Flo itself now offers an Anonymous Mode if you'd rather stay.

Is there a free alternative to Clue?

Yes. SheSync's tracking, predictions, symptom logging and insights are free with no time limit, and Apple Health's Cycle Tracking is free on every iPhone. Clue is also free to download, with optional Clue Plus features.

Which period tracker can I share with my partner?

SheSync is built around it: with SheSync Pro, a partner, parent or friend sees your phase, predicted dates and logged symptoms, with plain-English explanations. Flo's listing mentions partner tools. Apple Health can share chosen categories of Health data with a contact.

Do I lose my data when I switch period trackers?

Your history stays in the old app unless you delete it. Note your last few period start dates first and enter them in the new app so predictions start quickly. If privacy is why you're switching, delete your account in the old app, not just the app itself.
